the president told the crowd Monday.

"As we approach Labor Day, we
should take a step back and acknowledge the fact that America is now in one of
the strongest periods of job creation in our history," Biden said Friday
from the Rose Garden, where he spoke. after the report that US employers added

Friday's Labor Department report
also showed the unemployment rate rose to 3.8% from 3.5%, the highest level
since February 2022, though still low by historical standards. But the rate
rose for an encouraging reason: 736,000 people started looking for work last
month, the most since January, and not all of them found work right away. Only
people who are actively looking for work are counted among the unemployed.

Biden has used executive actions to encourage worker organizing,
personally encouraged unionization efforts at corporate giants such as Amazon, and
authorized federal funding to support union pensions. Just last week, the Biden
administration proposed a new rule that would make 3.6 million more American
workers eligible for overtime pay, the most generous such increase in a decade.

of a bipartisan $1.1 trillion public works package passed by Congress in 2021.
"Unions are raising standards
across the workforce and across industries, pushing wages up and strengthening
benefits for all," Biden said Friday. “You've heard me say it many times:
Wall Street didn't build America. The middle class built America and the unions
built the middle class.”
