An explosion at a Mooresville home just before midnight killed Robert Matthew Farley, 61, the Iredell County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Caleb Farley, 24, a cornerback drafted by the Titans in 2021, was not home at the time of the explosion. "We are dealing with a natural gas issue, but the investigation is ongoing," Kent Greene, fire chief. Services and emergency management, he told reporters.

Another person, described as a friend of Caleb Farley, was injured, Greene said. Firefighters found him walking away upon arrival and his injuries were not considered life-threatening. He was shaken by the explosion, Greene said.

 Dominion Energy said it is continuing to work with emergency officials during the investigation and expressed its condolences to all those affected.

Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said his thoughts and those of the team are with Farley and his family.

"I think the important thing is that we do everything we can to support Caleb, his family, and do everything we can to be there for him," Vrabel told reporters Tuesday.

A neighbor told NBC Charlotte affiliate WCNC that the explosion happened around midnight and that it shook their home.
