Unlike previous coronaviruses affecting cats, FCoV-23 appears to spread more easily but is not transmitted from domestic cats to humans. The virus F-CoV-23 (which is the
type of Covid-19) that caused the death of about 8 thousand cats in the Middle
Eastern country of Cyprus has now appeared in the UK.
According to foreign media reports,
a cat infected with the virus was brought into the country from Cyprus, raising
concerns about the health of British pets. F-CoV-23 is called feline infectious
peritonitis (FIP). That is a type of corona virus.
This epidemic in cats was revealed
in Cyprus at the beginning of this year, which killed thousands of cats.
An analysis by the University of
Edinburgh, the Royal Veterinary College and the Cypriot government found that
fingerprints from infected cats in the UK matched 91% of infected cats in
Cyprus.
Cypriot authorities reported more
than 8,000 cat deaths in the first 6 months of 2023, with estimates that the
real number exceeded 300,000, but authorities did not specify.
It is being told that the treatment
and tests etc. are being determined by the symptoms of the infected British
cat, the risk of further spread of this epidemic has been shown by the
scientists.
The study found that unlike previous
coronaviruses affecting cats, FCoV-23 appears to spread more easily but is not
transmissible from domestic cats to humans.

Apart from this, more research is
being done on this virus.
